Great Night

Good Morning Layla,

You are just a week old and you slept through the entire night without even needing a diaper change. Now, you did sleep on mommy all night; but it is amazing!!

We just put you down; but unfortunately, that seems to have lasted only 10 minutes before you started to cry.

Oh well...time to check your diaper :)

Pediatrician - 1st Visit

Hello Layla,

You had a very rough night last night; but luckily we also had your 1st visit to the pediatrician scheduled for this morning at 10:30am.

On Saturday night you were a perfect little angel, feeding at about midnight, gently waking us for diaper change and another feeding at 3:00am, and sleeping through until 7:30am when we woke you for your morning feeding...

Now, Sunday night was quite different, you were completely inconsolable. You were screaming constantly with what we can only guess were gas pains from either your formula which we are using to supplement your mothers milk, or from the learning curve associated with being new to breast feeding? Either way, it was tearing our hearts out to see you in such distress and screaming. Ultimately, you fell asleep on mommy's chest at about 1:00am and slept pretty well. When we woke up this morning, same thing started all over again and mommy was very distraught. Mimi was a great help in soothing you, and picked out your cute outfit for your visit to the pediatrician.

When we arrived, you were still screaming; but I think you worked some of it out right there in the waiting room, which meant another diaper change while at the Dr.

Your new Dr was great an helped us to realize that we were not doing anything wrong an that baby's sometimes just cry!! He said you had a perfect exam, gained back some of your weight, your color was perfect, lungs clear (obviously), etc. He recommended something to help with your gas and an alternative formula which we hope will make you more comfortable?

Please, please, please feel better...I hate to see both you an your mommy so upset!!

Do you like your Dr's outfit? I picked the monkey's :)

Love you like crazy!!

Epidural in...

Success!! The epidural is in, and seems to be functioning perfectly.

It's hard to watch Sabrina in so much pain during the contractions, so I am very glad that she made the decision to use this pain management tool.

She is much more comfortable now...and we hope we are just a couple of hours away!!

Making progress

OK...8:30am and we are making progress. The Dr removed the catheter balloon and broke the water, mom is 5cm dilated. The contractions are coming about every 3 minutes...though the Dr does not believe that these are the full fledged contractions quite yet. I never thought I would say it; but Sabrina has opted for the Epidural to aid in her pain management.

More to come as we make more progress!!

Looking forward to meeting you...

Hey there little girl; yes, I called you "little girl". Sorry for that; but the reason is because you aren't quite here yet, and we simply have not decided upon / agreed to a name.

By way of introduction, I am your father Gregory, and I have the extreme pleasure of being married to your mother, Sabrina. Over the course of my posts to this blog, I will tell you sooooo much about us that you will feel like you grew up in Buffalo, NY in the 1980's :)

Right now, it is about 6:05am on February 9, 2012 and we have been in the hospital waiting for you to come since last night. Like your mom, you are a bit late, and we were admitted for a small procedure which will aid your mom as she is induced into labor this morning. Our nurse Jen is in the room right now putting the monitors on your mom and is about to start the Petocin to induce the labor...which means...I gotta fly.

There will be much more shared here, and I hope that you have a chance to read through this from top to bottom some day.

We have not met you yet; but we already love beyond what words can say!!
